Ruxolitinib found to cause eyelash growth : a case report

Journal of Medical Case Reports

Hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) is a rare hematologicdisorder in which the eosinophils proliferate. The eosino-phils infiltrate and damage multiple organs. Without treat-ment, the condition is fatal, usually due to cardiacdysfunction, particularly left ventricular dysfunction.Causes of reactive eosinophilia include allergic and hyper-sensitivity reactions, drug allergies, cytokine therapy (re-combinant human interleukin), cutaneous disorders, connective tissue diseases, collagen vascular disorders, parasitic infections, immunodeficiency disorders, sarcoid-osis, and neoplasms, such as Hodgkin’s and non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas and acute lymphoplastic leukemia.Various hematopoietic neoplasms that demonstrate bloodeosinophilis are B cell and T cell non-Hodgkin’s lymph-omas, chronic myeloproliferative disorders (chronic:chronic myelogenous leukemia, chronic eosinophilicleukemia, systemic mast cell disease; acute: acute myeo-monocytic leukemia (AML) with eosinophilia, acutelymphoblastic leukemia with eosinophilia, and other mye-loid leukemias).Ruxolitinib is approved for myelofibrosis (MF) and iseffective in reducing splenomegaly. The medication isoff-labe l for HES but has been reported to be successfulin eosinophilic leukemia. Ruxolitinib (Jakafi®) has beenreported to aid in refractory alopecia areata. Our patientnoted that his eyelashes grew significantly. This is thefirst case in which eyelash growth has been reported. [..more]
